Critical thinking is a skill that most would agree is important in the workplace. But what is it, exactly? Critical thinking is reasonable, reflective thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe and what to do. It requires collecting information and then thoughtfully evaluating it in order to guide decision making.

Critical thinking helps you to make better decisions by engaging in logical reasoning, avoiding mistakes due to bias or inaccurate assumptions, and systematically working through options to identify the most relevant and reasonable solution.

Some people may be naturally skilled at critical thinking, but everyone can improve. That’s the purpose of this program—to give you an opportunity to practice your critical thinking skills. The first chapter reviews the critical thinking process, critical thinking traits, and common mistakes, while the remainder of the program offers case studies to apply and improve your critical thinking skills.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the four characteristics of critical thinking to help you gather and assess the right information.
  • Follow the three-step process of critical thinking to ensure you thoroughly review issues and potential solutions.
  • Recognize and avoid the four critical thinking mistakes.
  • Apply the process of critical thinking to real-world situations.
