CP Review - Contracts

This session provides an overall survey of the law of contracts. The basics of contract law presented include the following: (1) A discussion of contracts in general; (2) The elements required for the formation of a contract; (3) The classification of types of contracts; (4) Parties' contractual obligations and rights; (5) The requirements of an enforceable contract; and (6) Legal and equitable remedies for a breach of contract.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Lasting Legacy

In September 2020, right before the presidential election, the U.S. lost one of its most beloved and hardworking Supreme Court justices, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG). In this session, we will discuss the work and life of RBG, her incredible successes in accessing justice for women, and the legacy that she left behind. The discussion will also identify areas of ongoing concern to people in the fight for equal justice before the law, and how we can each contribute in a meaningful way to the agenda that RBG left unfinished.

A Look Inside Crime Scene Investigation

The goal of this session is to help paralegals understand what they should know about crime scene investigation. This session will cover the basics of crime scene investigation, including the following: how to establish and secure the crime perimeter; how to determine what type of crime occurred; how to conduct the primary survey to identify any potential evidence; how to document and process the crime scene and how to conduct any secondary survey; and lastly, how to record and preserve any evidence.

CP Review - Civil Litigation

This session assists those preparing for the Certified Paralegal Exam review for the Civil Litigation portion of the Knowledge Exam. The session offers a broad and basic view of the fundamentals of Civil Litigation. It will include discussions in the following areas: jurisdiction, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial process, and appeal process.

Learn the fundamentals of collection law in this basic to intermediate level course which will discuss the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, what you should be doing before you obtain a judgment, and what remedies are available to enforce a judgment including debtor’s exams, wage and bank garnishments, and writs of execution.  You will even get some skip-tracing tips on where you can find valuable information.

This session will review some basic writing strategies to make your writing clear, concise, and effective.  It will also offer suggestions for proofreading and editing your work and the work of others.

In this course Joseph Jones will teach the paralegals how social media and internet use have opened up new avenues for legal investigations. He will address why social media investigations are important to almost every case type. He will also discuss how to correctly locate, preserve and authenticate online content, and why a printed copy of something online is insufficient to produce as evidence.  The discussion also includes ethical discussions on what you should/shouldn’t be doing in regards to sending “friend” requests or other communications with subjects of the investigation.
