This on-demand webinar assists those taking the Certified Paralegal (“CP”) Exam review for the real estate property rights and ownership of the knowledge portion of the CP Exam. Our review begins with bedrock concepts of real estate law that were formed as early as Europe’s feudal era through the development of modern principles and practices.

Property rights are similar to a toolbox; over time, different tools have developed for different needs in society. Some early property rights are alive and well in both urban and rural environments, while others have faded through the process of modern industrialization.

How did property rights develop? How are the roots in property law alive and well today, and how have things changed? We will examine basic ownership rights and other real property interests such as estates, landlord and tenant rights, easements, covenants, and restrictions.

We also discuss federal law and how it intersects with state property rights. Today some of the most important elements of property law, such as taxation and mortgages, are partially governed by federal regulations.

A comprehensive discussion will ensue pertaining to the vocabulary of property rights. Since so many terms in property law have ancient roots, it is important for paralegals to understand the various terms of property law.

This course covers real estate purchase and sale transactions and other methods of obtaining interests in real property. Become acquainted with documentation such as purchase contracts, leases, deeds, mortgages, and liens. Due diligence topics such as title insurance and survey are reviewed.  Upon completion, registrants will understand the fundamentals of real estate and property law and will be familiar with the essential elements of real estate transactions.
