CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) 101: More than 76,000 volunteers through 1,000 CASA/GAL (Guardian-Ad-Litem) programs in 49 states give their time to children who find themselves involved with the child welfare system due to abuse or neglect. This on-demand webinar is designed to provide an overview of information about the CASA/GAL volunteer role and CASA’s role in the child welfare system.

Learning objectives:

Gain knowledge of the history of CASA and its current reach.
Know how to define the CASA/GAL role.
Understand the standards required of all CASA/GAL volunteers to be accepted into a program.
Understand the competencies necessary for CASA/GAL volunteers to succeed that CASA/GAL programs look for and build in training.
Know the differences in the CASA/GAL role from that of others involved in child welfare cases.
Understand how CASA/GAL volunteers find support and resources and obtain relevant confidential information.
Understand the professional staff support guiding the CASA/GAL volunteers.

Yes, these courses qualify for mandatory continuing legal education for: National Association of Legal Assistants, State Bar of California, Florida, North Carolina, and Louisiana State Paralegal Association. For all others please check with the corresponding institutions.
